It’s easy to forget that every good thing in our lives: our time, health, relationships, and even our talents, is a gift from God. We live in a world that often says, “Work hard and earn more,” but the Bible reminds us of a deeper truth: we are stewards, not owners.
“The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it.” – Psalm 24:1 (NIV)
Understanding this truth changes how we live. It humbles us and invites us to manage our gifts in ways that honor God. But what does it really mean to be a faithful steward of God’s gifts?
Let me share how I learned this lesson in my own journey of faith.
My Journey: From Music Ministry to Online Ministry

Years ago, when I was still based in Hong Kong, I served in the music ministry as a guitarist and choir member. I’ve always been passionate about playing the guitar and singing to the Lord. At that time, I thought that was the only way God wanted me to serve Him.
But God had other plans.
When I later moved to the Middle East for work, He opened a completely different door: the Education Ministry. I became the coordinator responsible for preparing Bible study lessons, organizing schedules, and even leading the studies. Eventually, I was included in the preaching rotation.
At first, I was nervous. I wasn’t sure I was equipped to teach or share God’s Word publicly. But as I obeyed, I discovered a new joy: helping others grow in their understanding of Scripture.
That season opened my eyes to a new calling. What started as service in music turned into a ministry of teaching and writing. Eventually, God led me to where I am now — sharing His Word through an online ministry.
Looking back, I see how God was teaching me stewardship every step of the way. He was saying, “Be faithful with what I’ve placed in your hands now, and I’ll entrust you with more later.”
Understanding Biblical Stewardship (1 Peter 4:10)
“Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.” – 1 Peter 4:10 (NIV)
Biblical stewardship is more than just managing money. It’s about faithfully managing everything God entrusts to us: our gifts, time, and opportunities.
Everything we have is a trust from God, meant to be used for His glory and for the good of others. When we live with that awareness, we begin to see our lives not as a series of random events but as a divine assignment.
Being a faithful steward doesn’t always mean doing something grand. It means doing small things with great faithfulness: serving in your local church, raising your children in the Lord, or encouraging someone through your words.
The Heart of a Faithful Steward

1️⃣ Humility: Acknowledging God as the Owner (Psalm 24:1)
The first step to faithful stewardship is humility. We must remember that everything we have belongs to God. We are caretakers of His resources, not the owners.
When we hold tightly to our gifts, we limit what God can do with them. But when we surrender them, He multiplies their impact. I’ve learned that humility isn’t thinking less of yourself; it’s thinking rightly about yourself in relation to God.
Everything we manage, from our income to our influence, should point back to Him.
2️⃣ Gratitude: Seeing Our Gifts as Grace (1 Thessalonians 5:18)
“Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” – 1 Thessalonians 5:18 (NIV)
Gratitude is at the heart of stewardship. When we recognize that our abilities and opportunities come from God’s hand, it stirs up joy and generosity within us.
Instead of comparing ourselves with others, we start celebrating what God is doing through us. Whether your gift is hospitality, teaching, music, or encouragement, thank Him for it and use it with joy.
When I shifted from music to teaching, I was tempted to miss what I used to do. But learning to thank God for new seasons helped me see His purpose in every change.
3️⃣ Faithfulness: Using and Developing What God Entrusts (Matthew 25:21)
“Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things.” – Matthew 25:21 (NIV)
In the Parable of the Talents, Jesus teaches that faithfulness in small things leads to greater responsibility.
It’s not about how much we have but how well we use it. God doesn’t compare our results to someone else’s; He looks at our obedience.
During my time in the Education ministry, I learned that even if no one noticed my work behind the scenes, God did. That truth freed me from striving for recognition and helped me focus on service.
Faithfulness is about showing up, consistently, prayerfully, and wholeheartedly.
4️⃣ Service: Using Our Gifts for Others (Philippians 2:4–5)
“Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others.” – Philippians 2:4–5 (ESV)
Jesus modeled the ultimate stewardship through His life of service. He used every moment, every miracle, every word, to glorify the Father and serve people.
That’s our example.
Your gift, whatever it is, was never meant to stop with you. It was meant to bless others. Whether you’re raising a family, writing online, or serving in church, you’re managing a gift that God can multiply through your obedience.
How to Be a Faithful Steward of God’s Gifts
Here are some practical steps to start living out faithful stewardship today:
1️⃣ Identify your gifts. Ask God to show you what He’s entrusted to you. Sometimes your gifts are hidden in what you already love doing.
2️⃣ Dedicate them to the Lord. Pray over your gifts and surrender them for His purposes.
3️⃣ Develop your gifts. Learn, grow, and improve. God honors effort.
4️⃣ Use them to serve others. Don’t wait for a platform; start where you are.
5️⃣ Depend on God daily. Stewardship isn’t about striving but trusting and relying on His grace to use your gifts well.
Remember, faithfulness is not perfection. It’s obedience, one day at a time.
The Reward of Faithful Stewardship (Matthew 25:21)

There’s no greater reward than hearing the Lord say, “Well done, good and faithful servant.”
Faithful stewardship brings deep satisfaction because it aligns our hearts with God’s purposes. It reminds us that every effort we make, every blog post, every song, every prayer, can be an act of worship when offered to Him.
For me, seeing how God used my shifting seasons: from music to teaching to online ministry, helped me realize that our gifts may change, but our calling to be faithful never does.
Since returning home to the Philippines, my husband and I have been helping our pastor pioneer a local church in our community.
Once again, God stretched my stewardship by allowing me to serve not only as a worship leader but also as someone who shares His Word behind the pulpit. It’s humbling to see how He continues to multiply what He first planted in me years ago, turning each act of obedience into another opportunity to serve.
No matter where He leads, one truth remains constant: God rewards faithfulness. When we surrender what’s in our hands, He uses it for His glory and the building of His Kingdom.
Key Takeaway
Being a faithful steward of God’s gifts means:
- Recognizing God as the true Owner,
- Responding with gratitude and humility,
- Using and growing what He’s entrusted, and
- Serving others with a joyful heart.
God isn’t looking for perfection; He’s looking for faithfulness.
When we surrender our gifts to Him, He multiplies them far beyond what we can imagine.
Call to Action
Take a moment today to reflect:
- What gifts has God entrusted to you right now?
- How are you using them to serve and honor Him?
Pray this simple prayer:
“Lord, thank You for the gifts You’ve placed in my life. Teach me to be a faithful steward; to use them not for my glory, but for Yours. Amen.”
And as you grow in stewardship, remember, your story, your voice, and your service all matter in God’s Kingdom. Use them faithfully and let God write His glory through your obedience. 🌿
