How To Be Content In Christ

How To Be Content In Christ

Bible Verse: Philippians 4:13 (NIV)

“I can do all this through Him who gives me strength.”

Reflection and Challenge

Having Jesus in our life makes us live with a victorious spirit over the difficulties that we face in our daily lives. It is all because, in God, nothing is impossible (Luke 1:37). This is absolutely true because God dearly loves His children. And if our earthy parents will do anything for our good, our heavenly Father does perfectly best.

Many if not all, reflect on this verse (Philippians 4:13) out of its context. They often interpret it to mean accomplishing things victoriously like winning a race, graduating in class with honors or even winning the heart of someone.

They imaginary and magically transform themselves by wearing their famous superhero’s cape and win them all with this verse. Once again there is nothing wrong in positively claiming that things will get done through Jesus!

However, reflecting on the subject verse and going back to the verse that precedes it (Philippians 4:12), the apostle Paul was talking about how he learned the secret of living in every situation, on either almost nothing or with everything. That is, whether he has a full or empty stomach, little or plenty, he can do everything through Christ who gives him strength.

Paul is actually talking about contentment rather than accomplishment. Do you sometimes feel that you want more resources to equip you in serving the Lord? We may sometimes say that if God would only bless me with this and that, I will be able to serve Him.

But the Lord wants you to be contented not complacent, thankful but not boastful. Trust in Him for He who is the source of everything will see you through to where and when He sends you.

  1. The Bible is one of the hardest books I’ve ever had to read. I’ve had to read through it for one of my classes and it’s a lot. But it’s really really interesting.

I’m not a religious person , but I do appreciate all religions and what they stand for. They all have so many interesting stories to read through.

    1. Hello Ty,

      Thanks for stopping by.

I understand that some people find it hard to read and understand the Bible. But that does not negate the fact that it holds the record as the most read book of all time. It’s also the one book that has been translated in various languages.

What makes the Bible unique? It was written by more than 40 different authors in three different languages, on 3 different continents, and over a period of 1600 years.

      Blessings!

Truly God’s words will never pass without touching anyone’s heart. He speaks to us through almost anything that comes around us. I am glad that you enjoyed reading.

  3. Great post and good info.

As you know, not in a too far past I didn’t really believe in Christ and God, but since I’ve met my wife that changed.

We have somebody to rely on, to follow his steps, even in the hardest moments, it is then when he wants you to prove yourself worthy to go to the heaven, and to be a good person.

Your post is very inspiring and beautiful, this is the reason I bookmarked it.

    1. Hi Emmanuel!

I am glad that your married life paved your way in knowing and believing Jesus better.

Truly, we cannot depend on anyone better than Jesus. His love and mercy never ceases, it never ends. If He has given His own life to save us, what else then is there that He cannot give us? Jesus has done His part. It is our turn this time. Keep on believing and living in faith.

      God bless you!

  4. Hello there,

Thanks for such a beautiful article, I really enjoyed reading it.

Having God guide us and help us overcome our difficulties through our journey is a true blessing and an amazing source of motivation. However, life can get hard sometimes and bring unexpected situations on our road. Therefore, it is very important to believe in ourselves and God, as well as take each situation met during our ”life trip” as a lesson, which can teach us something valuable and meaningful, and make most out of it, becoming better versions of ourselves while helping others around us.

    Keep up the great work!

    1. Hi Evald!

Thank you for your encouraging words.

God is truly our strong source of motivation especially in times we feel like we lack of something. His love and mercy creates in us the spirit of fearlessness and content. There could never be a thing that we either have or do not have which should stop us from doing things for His glory. God does not only teach us things along the way but He makes us realize how important we are to Him.

If God is with us, there is nothing that can be against us.

      May God bless you more!
